The animal By-Products and food waste digester is an automatic composting machine that disposes of By-Products and food matter continuously. You can add By-Products and or food waste into the machine at any time. Microorganisms break the waste down into grey water, which is discharged down the drain.

Water is injected into the machine to maintain equilibrium for the microorganisms to rapidly decompose the waste and to flush decomposed material out of the machine. A rotating arm inside the machine slowly mixes the by-products, old food, new food, oxygen, and microorganisms to enhance decomposition.

This waste processing equipment is essential for meat processing and butcher services to dispose of undesirable waste. Proteins such as meats and poultry can be broken down within 24 hours. Food scraps such as eggshells, fish bones, and tendons can also be digested by the biodigester. (Can not digest full bones or beef hides).

The biodigester can be thought of as a stainless steel stomach in which microorganisms digest the organic material.

Biodigesters for Farms and Food Waste Management

At Bierman Equipment, we understand that farms and food processing operations need reliable ways to manage organic waste without creating unnecessary handling challenges, storage issues, or compliance concerns. Biodigesters offer an efficient solution for operations that generate a steady volume of manure, food scraps, organic byproducts, and other biodegradable materials.

By converting organic waste through a controlled biological process, biodigesters help reduce waste volume, improve material management, and support cleaner, more efficient operations.

As agricultural and food-related businesses look for better ways to handle organic residuals, biodigesters have become an important part of modern waste management planning. Instead of treating waste as a problem that simply needs to be stored, hauled, or disposed of, biodigesters make it possible to process material in a way that supports operational goals and environmental responsibility.

For many farms and food processing facilities, waste handling affects labor requirements, site cleanliness, odor control, nutrient management, and regulatory planning. Biodigesters help address these concerns by processing organic material in a more controlled and predictable way.

How Biodigesters Improve Waste Processing Solutions

Biodigesters actively process organic material, making them a dependable system for ongoing waste management.

  • Reduce the volume of untreated organic waste on site
  • Improve consistency in how organic materials are handled
  • Support better odor management
  • Create a more organized waste processing workflow
  • Reduce reliance on traditional storage and disposal methods
  • Produce useful byproducts that may support other operational goals

How Biodigesters Process Organic Waste

Biodigesters use anaerobic digestion, where microorganisms break down organic material in an oxygen-free environment. Organic waste such as manure, food waste, crop residuals, and biodegradable byproducts is introduced into the system, where conditions are managed to support microbial activity.

  • Reduction of raw organic waste volume
  • Improved stabilization of waste material
  • Better management of odor-generating organics
  • Potential production of renewable energy through biogas
  • Creation of digestate for further processing or use

Types of Biodigesters for Agricultural Use

Different biodigester designs suit different waste streams and operational needs.

  • Covered lagoon digesters for high liquid content waste
  • Plug flow digesters for thicker manure and steady inputs
  • Complete mix digesters for uniform mixing and controlled processing
  • Dry digestion systems for higher solids organic materials

Benefits of Biodigester Systems

Biodigesters provide a more controlled and efficient way to manage organic waste.

  • Efficient management of manure, food waste, and byproducts
  • Reduced environmental impact
  • Better odor control
  • Improved site organization and consistency
  • Potential recovery of biogas for energy use
  • Stable digestate output for downstream handling
  • Support for long-term sustainability goals

Key Considerations Before Installing a Biodigester

Waste Type and Consistency

  • Moisture content, solids concentration, and contamination all affect system design

Volume and Throughput

  • Daily and seasonal waste volume determines system sizing and capacity

Available Space

  • The system must fit the site layout with room for feeding, maintenance, and storage

Energy and Output Goals

  • Operations may focus on waste reduction, biogas recovery, or digestate use

Labor and Maintenance Resources

  • Equipment should align with available staffing and maintenance capabilities

Compliance and Permitting

  • Review local regulations, environmental considerations, and nutrient management requirements

FAQ

What are biodigesters?

  • Biodigesters are systems that break down organic waste in an oxygen-free environment to produce biogas and digestate.

What materials can biodigesters process?

  • They can process manure, food waste, crop residue, and other biodegradable organic materials.

How do biodigesters help farms?

Do biodigesters produce energy?

  • Yes, many biodigesters produce biogas that can be used for energy-related applications.

Are biodigesters only for large operations?

  • No, system size and configuration can vary based on operational needs.

What is digestate?

  • Digestate is the remaining material after anaerobic digestion, which can be further processed or used.

What should be considered before installing biodigesters?

  • Waste type, volume, space, labor, output goals, and compliance requirements should all be evaluated.
